REGIONAL OPERATORSFacing the Future Competitive LandscapeAs new programs and capacity comes into the globe's most fragmented market, Asian operators will see the impact of NGEOs as well as large GEO programs like Viasat, pose threats to regional incumbents. New strategies need to be crafted and implemented immediately if incumbents are to survive in the mid-to-long term. - What form will their strategies take? - What role will emerging services like D2C play? - Which companies in the satellite and non-satellite value chain do they need to tap? - What is the role of telco's in the future landscape?

- Huang Baozhong, Executive Vice President, APT Satellite
- Daniel Kim, Head of Overseas Business Group, KT Sat

NGSO CONSTELLATIONSSlowly First, then All at OnceThe satcom industry has seen NGSO constellations become a progressively larger and more diverse driver of growth. From Gen 1 Iridium to the original O3b to the rapid ascent of the Starlinks and OneWebs of today, constellations have come upon us, in the words of Ernest Hemingway, “gradually, then suddenly”. And we are nowhere close to the end of this story. The recent evolution in the NGSO space has made two things clear: 1) NGSOs are here to stay, and 2) there is room for more than one player. Different constellations will serve different markets with different value propositions, and while all of them will contribute to some disruption, none will be a holy grail, and most will grow the pie. In this session, we will discuss the role and value proposition of different leading NGSO constellations, their chosen technologies, and the place of NGSO in a changing satcom industry.

SATELLITE BROADCASTChallenging the Broadcast Economics Value PropWhile LinearTV continues to account for a large portion of the satellite industry's revenue base, its revenue and growth trajectory has seen steady decline over the past decade. Viewer preferences, streaming services, improved broadband penetration in key markets, and other elements will all contribute to the decline of video, presenting multiple market and technical challenges for the satellite industry. But perhaps one of the biggest challenges the industry will face is the challenge being posed on the very foundation of the industry's success: broadcast economics. Cloud/CDN services are now available where end users depending on traffic patterns find the solution more cost-effective. - What is the go-to-market strategy of cloud/CDN players for video? - Will broadcast economics indeed fall by the wayside? - How should satellite operators respond to this trend and/or threat?

SATELLITE MANUFACTURING - Evolving Market Circumstances and Business Models (Part 1)Legacy - Attempts to go out of the boxNumber of satellites built every year now exceeds 2,000. But majority of those are small LEO satellites below 600kg class, and the markets of larger LEO and GEO birds have been shrinking. Cost of satellites has been dramatically decreasing, and people are also talking about different business models, including SaaS model (Satellite-as-a-Service). Both legacy and new satellite manufacturers have been evolved their ways of doing businesses, and we see some cases that both have been collaborating – proactively, or as a fate. At this Satellite Manufacturers Panel, first time ever in the history of APSCC Annual Conference, we will try to highlight views and mindsets of legacy and new manufacturers separately (Part-1 and part-2), and then combine the both at the same stage to discuss where the business will go in the next 5 years (Part-3). We will welcome the audience to proactively participate in the Part-3 discussions.

AUSTRALASIA FOCUSAustralasia FocusAustralia has experienced an upsurge is actors looking outside of the Commonwealth for their business, among them there are the traditional exporters upping their game in a competitive arena, and the new players with latest developments looking to hook into the wealth of opportunities that satellite’s burgeoning ecosystem is bringing. The innovation is impressive both on the offerings side and the technology enabling it.

GLOBAL OPERATORSGlobal Satellite Operators in the Age of Strategic AutonomyThe space and satcom industries are changing, with countries all around the world investing more into their own domestic capabilities, and viewing the space sector as more strategically important than before. This has opened the door to many new opportunities and challenges for established global players: rising space budgets spell a boom for them, while markets with a wandering eye towards self-sufficiency represent a potential threat. All the while, global constellations raise increasingly tangible issues of sovereignty in the space domain. During this session, we speak with leading global satellite operators about their strategies in the Asia-Pacific region, including vertical integration, main growth drivers and competitive threats, and the evolving role of the global satellite operator in the world’s most dynamic, yet fragmented satcom market.

SATELLITE DIRECT-TO-CELL (D2C)Taking Satellite to the MainstreamWith billions of cellular handsets that could potentially be satellite-enabled, D2C can quickly take the relatively niche Satcom industry to the mainstream. However, many questions and issues still need to be addressed: - Is there enough spectrum to go around? - How do satellite companies monetize the offering and which business model wins? - Will narrowband services be enough for consumers, businesses and government entities?
