11:00 Satellite’s Role in 5G – Stitching Together the Network of Networks
The rollout of 5G and associated services will change the way we live, interact, and exchange information. Faster data rates, lower latency, and more efficient networks will allow for the development of more bandwidth-intensive services and experiences, enabling technologies such as autonomous vehicles, enhanced telemedicine, and higher-quality distance education. It will not, however, be feasible to roll out the ultra-dense, high-cost networks associated with 5G via only terrestrial means. Satellite can, and must play a role in stitching together the network of networks that is 5G, and with advancements such as LEO-HTS constellations, very High Throughput GEO satellites, and new types of ground equipment, the satellite industry is in a position to do just that. A panel of industry experts discusses the rapidly evolving role that satellite plays in the rollout of 5G, challenges and opportunities therein, and what the future of satellite-enabled 5G may be.

13:00 Supporting seamless connectivity between 5G and satellite
With the advent of 5G, satellite has the opportunity to become a mainstream solution seemingly integrating with terrestrial technologies. Recently, one of the latest tests at KT SAT of South Korea has shown how hybrid 5G transmission technology can enable a 5G-based automated machinery or moving vehicle to maintain network connectivity when the 5G service is out of coverage or a disaster has occurred, to and from a 5G commercial network and a satellite network. This session will introduce you to key features of hybrid transmission technologies, test process, and other addressable use-cases based on our experiences.

11:00 Asia Satcoms Market Overview
Market signals and opportunities have changed drastically in a matter of months, thanks in large part to COVID19. The red hot mobility markets have come to a screeching halt while the maturing or saturing video markets have suddenly experienced resurgence. Data markets have continued to gain traction and connectivity needs are bracing for an explosion under the new normal.

  • Jose Del Rosario, Senior Research Director, NSR (Moderator)
  • Yau Chyong Lim, COO, MEASAT
  • Mitsutoshi Akao, Deputy Unit President of Space Business Unit, SKY Perfect JSAT
  • Adi R. Adiwoso, Presient & CEO, PSN

13:00 Satellite Video Distribution
The widespread adoption of Video On-Demand has resulted in reduced time spent on linear TV. Previously, satellites formed the backbone of global video distribution, but now, demand for capacity has reached a plateau. In Asia Pacific, distribution varies from country-to-country and delivery via CDNs and terrestrial technologies remains a challenge for one-to-many applications, ensuring a role for satellites now, and for years to come.
