ON DEMAND > INNOVATION SERIES
THE FUTURE OF GEO OPERATORS
SPONSORED BY
The current satcom market is evolving rapidly. OTT is rising and DTH video is becoming more vulnerable in the traditional satcom market, and the expected bandwidth request increase for UHD/4K/8K is slower than expected. In data and trunking, competition is coming from the terrestrial infrastructure. The NGSO system is coming, with Starlink in the pole position now for both B2C and B2B verticals, followed by OneWeb and SES mPower with their main focus on B2B. Last but not least, the yet-to-be-overcome COVID-19 pandemic is accelerating the digital transformation, which would require more bandwidth of communication, but the GEO satcom industry may not be fully benefiting such evolution. Major GEO satcom players are trying to establish their own global coverages, whilst the regional players are left to find their own answers to the current situation.
